UpdatedI don’t use AI to write
Every word on this blog is quoted from its source or drafted by me in Obsidian. I enjoy reading and writing and researching and interpreting, and I feel no temptation whatsoever to delegate my joy to a machine.
I know some people will see my em dashes and write me off as a liar, and that makes me sad. AI uses em dashes today because we used them first. Billionaires build their boxes to steal liberally, learn fast, and emulate perfectly, and ⌥ + shift + - is mine ’til the day they decide computers don’t need keyboards any more.
I use AI to help me find my mistakes
When I’ve finished writing a piece of work, I ask Claude to perform an editorial review and to never, ever write or rewrite for me. It’s a tutor-editor who helps me to see where I’ve spelled an author’s name wrong three different ways, not an intern who fixes my drafts for me.
I understand if you don’t make any distinction between what I do and don’t use AI for. I understand if you think I’m a hypocrite. At the very least, I hope you’ll consider me honest.
