Queer Chapters

Hello! 👋

I’ve been writing short book reviews on Goodreads since 2012, and I always fancied my own blog where I could try more long-form writing, but I never felt like I was good enough to justify it.

Well, fuck it. Here I am with my hopes and dreams and two B’s in GCSE English Language & Literature anyway.

At Queer Chapters, I focus only on queer stories. I think Amazon and other mainstream stores have been polluted by stories that demean and fetishise us, and readers are missing out on some truly incredible stories by unknown authors. I’m a pansexual, transgender, non-binary piece of shit who loves stories in those colours, and I want to help readers like me find more.

So, my guiding principle for the blog is simple: it’s for the readers. This means:

  • Respecting content warnings and responsibly disclosing harmful tropes. If a book buries its gays, that’s safety information and not a spoiler.
  • Loving new and returning readers! You don’t need ten years of BookTok insider baseball to be welcome here.
  • Never uncritically promoting queer and queer-ally creators. Helping a reader find a book they’ll love is important; helping an author make a sale is not.

My background undoubtedly colours the way I think and write. I’m white, English, went to school under Section 28, renting a rotting flat in an impoverished town in the south-west peninsula of the United Kingdom, and lucky enough to be well-educated in a technical industry being destroyed by AI.

As much as ever before, we need solidarity, empathy, and artistic expression. This is my small contribution.
